Microsoft Edge
- OCR 方式及文字处理开关;
- 用户配置的 API 服务地址和模型名称;
- 姓名、地址、电子邮件地址等身份信息;
- 浏览历史、位置、点击记录或跨网站活动;
- 健康、财务或支付信息;
Newspaper OCR Assistant Privacy Policy
Microsoft Edge Extension
Effective date: August 7, 2026
Newspaper OCR Assistant uses local processing by default. It does not create user accounts, display advertising, or sell user data.
1. Scope
This Privacy Policy applies to the Microsoft Edge extension “Newspaper OCR Assistant” (the “Extension”). The Extension recognizes newspaper or document images explicitly selected by the user, converts vertical Traditional Chinese into editable horizontal Simplified Chinese, and can optionally add punctuation.
2. Local OCR and website content
When the user starts OCR and selects an area, the Extension captures the visible portion of the current tab and processes only the image area selected by the user. By default, OCR, layout ordering, and Traditional-to-Simplified Chinese conversion are performed locally on the user's device. Images and recognized text are not sent to or stored by the Extension developer.
3. Optional third-party AI APIs
Users may configure and enable DeepSeek, OpenAI, or a compatible API for punctuation processing, text organization, or visual OCR. When an optional API feature is used, the Extension sends the text or image needed for that feature, together with the user-provided API key, directly to the service endpoint configured by the user. Third-party services process this data under their own privacy policies and terms. The Extension developer does not receive or store these requests, content, API keys, or API responses.
Users may use local OCR without configuring an API key and may disable AI text processing or delete API settings at any time.
4. Information stored locally
The Extension uses Microsoft Edge local extension storage for:
- OCR provider and text-processing preferences;
- User-configured API endpoints and model names;
- User-provided API keys.
This information remains in the user's local browser profile and is not transmitted to the Extension developer. Users can edit or clear the settings, and can remove locally stored Extension data by uninstalling the Extension.
5. Information not collected by the developer
The Extension developer does not collect, retain, or sell:
- Names, addresses, email addresses, or other identifying information;
- Browsing history, location, click logs, or cross-site activity;
- Health, financial, or payment information;
- User-selected webpage images, OCR results, or API keys.
6. Permission use
- activeTab: captures visible content only after the user explicitly starts OCR.
- storage: stores the Extension settings described above locally.
- Website access: displays the selection interface and processes the area selected by the user on supported webpages.
7. Data sharing, sale, and unrelated use
The Extension developer does not sell user data, use user data for purposes unrelated to the Extension's single purpose, or use user data for advertising, creditworthiness, or lending decisions. Except when the user deliberately enables and directly calls a configured third-party AI service, the Extension does not transmit user-selected content to third parties.
8. Children's privacy
The Extension is not designed to collect children's personal information and does not knowingly collect such information.
9. Changes to this policy
If the Extension's data practices change materially, this Privacy Policy will be updated and the effective date shown on this page will be revised.
10. Contact
For questions about this Privacy Policy, please use the developer support contact listed on the Extension's Microsoft Edge Add-ons store page.
